Confirm the property and report version
Check that the building, report identity and version match the work you are planning. Synthetic samples are labeled and never describe a real customer property.
Read the units and area basis
A roofing square is 100 square feet of roof surface. Apply a pitch adjustment only when converting horizontal projected area to sloped surface area.
Follow the facet ledger
Each planar roof section has its own identity, area and pitch where supported. Match ledger labels to the plan and, for mixed pitches, calculate each facet separately.
How do edge lengths become material quantities?
Eaves, rakes, ridges, hips and valleys have different roles. Use their classified lengths with the selected material system, installation details and separately identified accessories.
Synthetic example: 120 linear ft of an applicable edge divided by a hypothetical 10 linear ft of usable coverage per piece is 12 pieces before project-specific cuts. Use the actual product’s usable coverage after required laps, then round up to whole purchase units; never assume nominal piece length equals installed coverage.

Check sources before using the result
Review capture dates, confidence reasons, missing evidence and exclusions. An illustrative material list is a planning example; supplier ordering requires reviewed products, quantities and SKU mappings.
